Pedal Drive The John Wayne Pioneer Trail

Pedal Drive The John Wayne Pioneer Trail

There is no need for a saddle if you want to ride Iron Horse State Park. While our cowboy predecessors might have rode a horse and driven cattle through this beautiful landscape all you’ll need is some air in the tires, padding in the shorts, and a sense for adventure.

The 110 mile long John Wayne Pioneer Trail begins or ends, (depending on where you start) in the forests of the Snoqualmie River Valley. The other end of the trail is far to the east along the banks of the Columbia River, just south of Vantage. This  beautiful trail snakes through tunnels, over bridges, through both lush and thirsty valleys. The trail bridges the Columbia Valley with The Cascades. This is a noteworthy biking adventure on a loose gravel railroad bed. The average grade is just over 2%.

This path is open to all forms of self propelled, but non-motorized vehicles and  the byway can be done as a whole or in sections as it is easy to access from Interstate 90.   If your really adventurous, pack a tent and some overnight gear as there are designated camping spots along the way.
